Marilyn Art, 2021

Danny Hoens

The gaze immediately captures a human figure emerging from a graphic chaos. The face is drawn through a dense intertwining of letters and words. The word Art repeats relentlessly. It saturates the space. This repetition creates a complex visual texture. The colors clash with a marked chromatic intensity. Red and blue dominate the composition.

The black line outlines the contours of the face with precision. It brings a necessary structure in the face of the profusion of signs. The red lips constitute the focal point of the canvas. They contrast with the fragmentation of the rest of the portrait. The background merges with the subject. The boundary between the individual and language gradually disappears.

The artist uses an approach close to street art. The gesture is fast. The superposition of layers suggests a temporal accumulation. This superposition gives a nearly tactile depth to the surface. The light seems to burst from the center of the forehead. It illuminates the details of meticulous lettering. The portrait fragments into a thousand colored splinters. The whole rests on a fragile balance between order and disorder. Variations of yellow and orange tones are observed on the edges of the painting.
