Description
A profound sense of movement defines this atmospheric seascape. The horizon line anchors the composition. Above it, a turbulent sky unfolds in deep indigos and stark whites. Thick textures suggest a gathering storm. Brilliant flashes of ochre break through the heavy clouds. The artist employs an experimental approach to capture the raw energy of nature.
The lower register reveals a contrasting stillness. Saturated teals and greens describe a moody ocean. Delicate white crests mark the rhythmic arrival of waves upon the shore. Warm earthen tones ground the foreground with a tactile, sandy quality.
This 2022 artwork blends watercolour, acrylic, and mixed media techniques. Each stroke reflects a keen understanding of light and atmospheric depth. The composition evolves from the fluid transparency of water to the dense opacity of a brooding sky. It captures a fleeting moment of coastal intensity through a sophisticated palette of cold and warm hues. The resulting image is a powerful study of the elemental tension between sea and air.
Presentation
Peter Delahaye is an abstract artist, painting from studios in Venice and Bangkok. He is
very experimental in his approach. He is an able watercolourist, and also teaches plein air landscape
painting in workshops held in locations such as the Venetian lagoon and the Extremadura in Spain. One
participant reckons it’s the best watercolor landscape five-day course she has ever taken. He is self-taught
and says he has the gift of ‘carrying color in his head’. He creates small watercolor and mixed media
works on paper (including miniatures), soap designs developed into carpets, and large multi-panels of
acrylic. During 2016-2019, Peter has been working on a number of large multiple panel commissions for
specific sites. Some of these have been creative wall pieces and headboards for beds. The last four years
have seen outdoor painting trips to France, the West Coast of Ireland, different parts of Italy, Spain and
Switzerland.
