Description
He stands with his arm folded across his chest - not in defense, but in quiet ownership. The straw hat shades his face from a sun that has watched generations come before him. The green field stretches wide behind him, endless, indifferent to time. His clothing carries the leaves and dots of things that grow, things that return each season no matter what came before.
We are all sons - and daughters - of some green field. A place, a people, a beginning that shaped us before we had words for it. We leave it, chase gold in far-off cities, put on new patterns and new fabrics, but the field is still there, folded into us the way the leaf motif is folded into his sleeve. It doesn't shout. It doesn't need to. It simply waits, patient as land, for us to remember where we grew from.
This is a portrait of that quiet inheritance - the version of home we carry inside our clothes, our posture, our gaze, long after we've walked away from the actual soil. To be a "son of the green field" is not about where you stand now. It's about never fully leaving the place that made you - and wearing that origin, whether you know it or not, in the way you hold your own arms, your own head, your own history.
Presentation
Fadahunsi Akintomiwa Joseph, also known as Orthodox Arts, is a contemporary Nigerian visual artist and painter born in 2001.
At the heart of the artist’s practice is a commitment to Black Art, specifically an exploration of individuality in Black identity through the use of stripes. Working from a studio in Nigeria, the artist uses bold vertical lines as a signature visual element to represent cadence, structure, and the unique rhythms of Black life.
For the artist, Black Art is not merely an aesthetic choice. It is a vital vehicle for celebrating human dignity, cultural heritage, and personal expression.
