Description
In a world that demands constant motion, Between Thought and Time captures the quiet, interior sanctuary of stillness.
The subject sits cradled in contemplation, her gaze steady behind delicate frames. She is a figure suspended between two opposing forces: the relentless, structured ticking of reality-marked by the wristwatch on her arm, and the vast, weightless expanse of the mind, symbolized by the dark, intertwined chain resting above her like a heavy halo.
The vibrant green of her shirt grounds her in the present, while the loop above her head acts as a visual metaphor for the thoughts that bind, connect, and endlessly circle us. It is the infinite spiral of overthinking, memory, and ambition. She does not fight the weight of her mind; instead, she wears it with a quiet, regal grace.
The portrait captures that precise, fleeting moment when a person retreats inward-where the world outside continues its steady march forward, but inside, time stands completely still.
Presentation
Fadahunsi Akintomiwa Joseph, also known as Orthodox Arts, is a contemporary Nigerian visual artist and painter born in 2001.
At the heart of the artist’s practice is a commitment to Black Art, specifically an exploration of individuality in Black identity through the use of stripes. Working from a studio in Nigeria, the artist uses bold vertical lines as a signature visual element to represent cadence, structure, and the unique rhythms of Black life.
For the artist, Black Art is not merely an aesthetic choice. It is a vital vehicle for celebrating human dignity, cultural heritage, and personal expression.
