Before They Bloom, 2026

Emma Nourse

A luminous celebration of nature. Emma Nourse transforms a classic still life into a tactile experience. Oil paint is applied with generous intensity. The texture rises from the surface. It creates a sculptural relief that mimics the organic weight of the fruit.
Bright yellow lemons dominate the composition. They cling to twisting branches that reach across the frame. The colors are vivid and saturated. They evoke a Mediterranean heat and an enduring sunlight.
At the center sits a ceramic pitcher. The blue and white patterns offer a cool contrast to the warm tones of the citrus. The brushstrokes here are fluid and precise. They balance the raw energy of the surrounding foliage.
The arrangement spills forward. A sliced fruit rests at the base, revealing soft pink hues and intricate seeds. This detail adds a layer of sensory intimacy. The artwork explores the tension between two dimensions. It blends figurative representation with an almost physical presence. Every leaf and peel feels tangible. The composition remains focused on the quiet beauty of domestic objects and the fleeting brilliance of summer harvest.
