Description
This artwork is a stunning example of contemporary abstract painting, melding rich textures and vibrant hues to create a compelling visual experience. The composition is meticulously layered, integrating both vertical and horizontal elements that guide the viewer's eye through the canvas. At first glance, the painting exudes a sense of mystery and depth, primarily dominated by a dark, moody palette. The background is a tapestry of deep blacks and blues, providing a stark contrast to the vivid orange and pink horizontal streaks that slice through the composition. These streaks are uneven and sporadic, adding an element of spontaneity and rawness to the piece. One of the most striking features of this artwork is the array of circular forms scattered throughout the canvas. These circles vary in size and opacity, some appearing almost transparent while others are richly textured with a distressed, almost corroded, surface. This textural detail adds a tactile dimension to the painting, inviting the viewer to almost feel the roughness and complexity of the surfaces depicted. The interplay between the geometric circles and the abrupt, horizontal lines creates a dynamic tension. The circles break the rigidity of the lines, adding movement and fluidity to the painting. There’s an underlying grid-like structure that is subtly revealed through the layers, suggesting a sense of order amidst the chaos. The minimalist signature in the bottom right corner adds a final understated touch, letting the artwork’s composition and texture take center stage. This piece is a masterful exploration of contrasts—between light and dark, order and randomness, smoothness and texture. It’s a captivating example of abstract art’s potential to evoke emotion and provoke thought through color, form, and texture.
Presentation
My name is Michael R. Grine and I am an process oriented artist. I use a combination of found objects, acrylic paints, and aerosol paints to create abstract patterns on wood and canvas.
Statement
Curiosity. Emotion. Experimentation. Exploration. Leap of faith. Pursuit of knowledge. These words only begin to describe what my art signifies or represents. I was born an artist and have always identified myself as an artist. I possess an insatiable creative drive to make art out of the images I see in my mind. To help satisfy this impulse, I am always exploring new places and trying new things. Having freedom of expression and not being limited to one style or technique of making art are paramount to my identity as an artist. I love the many different processes of making art and experimenting with new ways of creating art.
My inspiration stems from color, music, literature, and the excitement about the unknown possibilities of taking everyday objects and using them in a way that differs from what the manufacturer intended. I use a combination of found objects, acrylic paints, and aerosol paints to create abstract patterns on wood and canvas. Some of my methods include combining different chemicals and paint on paper or in plastic or wood box frames to distort vivid colors that are mixed or thrown right on the canvas. The result is the distortion of lines and contours, and layers of translucent or opaque paints on the canvas or in random patterns.
