Description
This artwork is an exemplary piece that delves into the dynamic interplay of light, shadow, and geometry. At first glance, the observer is drawn into a mesmerizing vortex of intricate patterns and translucent layers. The dominant circular motif, rendered with meticulous attention, sits at the heart of the composition. Its lattice-like structure appears almost three-dimensional owing to the expert use of shading and subtle gradients. The monochromatic palette enhances the enigma of the piece, drawing attention to the delicate balance between the darker and lighter tones. The outer edges of the circular form seem to dissolve into the background, creating an ethereal, almost otherworldly effect. This dreamlike quality is further emphasized by the soft, mist-like texture that envelops the central structure, blurring the boundaries and inviting viewers into a deeper contemplation. The work’s distinctive use of negative space creates a sense of movement and fluidity. The contrast between the sharply defined lines and the gentle, airy quality of the surrounding area speaks to a refined understanding of composition. Each element within the piece is harmoniously balanced, establishing a rhythm that guides the viewer’s eye across the canvas. In sum, this artwork is a captivating dance of visual elements, where precision meets abstraction. Its unique manipulation of form and space challenges traditional perspectives, inviting viewers to explore the infinite potentials of perception and interpretation.
Presentation
My name is Michael R. Grine and I am an process oriented artist. I use a combination of found objects, acrylic paints, and aerosol paints to create abstract patterns on wood and canvas.
Statement
Curiosity. Emotion. Experimentation. Exploration. Leap of faith. Pursuit of knowledge. These words only begin to describe what my art signifies or represents. I was born an artist and have always identified myself as an artist. I possess an insatiable creative drive to make art out of the images I see in my mind. To help satisfy this impulse, I am always exploring new places and trying new things. Having freedom of expression and not being limited to one style or technique of making art are paramount to my identity as an artist. I love the many different processes of making art and experimenting with new ways of creating art.
My inspiration stems from color, music, literature, and the excitement about the unknown possibilities of taking everyday objects and using them in a way that differs from what the manufacturer intended. I use a combination of found objects, acrylic paints, and aerosol paints to create abstract patterns on wood and canvas. Some of my methods include combining different chemicals and paint on paper or in plastic or wood box frames to distort vivid colors that are mixed or thrown right on the canvas. The result is the distortion of lines and contours, and layers of translucent or opaque paints on the canvas or in random patterns.
