Description
This artwork is a striking and minimalist representation of an iconic sneaker, executed with precision and stark contrast. Dominated by deep green and black hues, the piece captures the silhouette of the shoe effortlessly, allowing the viewer to immediately recognize its familiar shape. The artwork features the sneaker's distinctive contours: the high-top design, the curved lines of the upper and lower sole, and the prominent swoosh emblem, which is prominently highlighted in black against the green backdrop. The simplicity of the color palette amplifies the boldness of the form, providing a visually arresting contrast that commands attention. The artist's technique seems rooted in stencil art, lending a sharp and clean-edge quality to the piece that enhances its modern and urban aesthetic. This choice of method reflects a deliberate emphasis on the shoe's iconic status and cultural significance, transforming a common object into a subject of artistic inquiry and appreciation. The background, a soft yet pristine white, serves as an immaculate canvas that allows the shoe's form to dominate the visual plane without distraction. This interplay between the minimalism of the background and the intricate details within the shoe's outline elevates the artwork, making it not just a depiction, but a statement. In essence, this artwork is a celebration of contemporary culture, seamlessly combining the realms of fashion and art. It pays homage to the sneaker's influence in modern society while encapsulating its timelessness through a restrained yet potent artistic expression.
Presentation
My name is Michael R. Grine and I am an process oriented artist. I use a combination of found objects, acrylic paints, and aerosol paints to create abstract patterns on wood and canvas.
Statement
Curiosity. Emotion. Experimentation. Exploration. Leap of faith. Pursuit of knowledge. These words only begin to describe what my art signifies or represents. I was born an artist and have always identified myself as an artist. I possess an insatiable creative drive to make art out of the images I see in my mind. To help satisfy this impulse, I am always exploring new places and trying new things. Having freedom of expression and not being limited to one style or technique of making art are paramount to my identity as an artist. I love the many different processes of making art and experimenting with new ways of creating art.
My inspiration stems from color, music, literature, and the excitement about the unknown possibilities of taking everyday objects and using them in a way that differs from what the manufacturer intended. I use a combination of found objects, acrylic paints, and aerosol paints to create abstract patterns on wood and canvas. Some of my methods include combining different chemicals and paint on paper or in plastic or wood box frames to distort vivid colors that are mixed or thrown right on the canvas. The result is the distortion of lines and contours, and layers of translucent or opaque paints on the canvas or in random patterns.
