Description
This artwork presents a compelling exploration of human connection and abstract expression. Rendered in bold, vibrant hues of blue, red, and purple, it features two silhouetted figures standing side by side. The figures are minimally detailed, defined primarily by swaths of color that appear to both intersect and diffuse into the surrounding canvas. The most striking aspect is the fluidity of the medium, with colorful drips extending downwards, creating an effect reminiscent of melting or bleeding, suggesting a sense of transient emotion or ephemeral connection. The contrasts between the stark white background and the saturated colors amplify the figures, making them stand out while simultaneously blending into each other—a symbolic interpretation of interconnected identities or shared experiences. Additionally, the organic nature of the drips and splatters contributes to an overall sense of dynamism and movement, giving the static figures a life of their own. The abstract forms within their silhouettes hint at a deeper narrative, inviting viewers to ponder their relationship. The use of negative space around the figures emphasizes isolation and focus, suggesting a profound moment of unity or confrontation that captures the viewer's attention. This artwork is a powerful testament to the complexities of human relationships and the beauty found within abstract representation.
Presentation
My name is Michael R. Grine and I am an process oriented artist. I use a combination of found objects, acrylic paints, and aerosol paints to create abstract patterns on wood and canvas.
Statement
Curiosity. Emotion. Experimentation. Exploration. Leap of faith. Pursuit of knowledge. These words only begin to describe what my art signifies or represents. I was born an artist and have always identified myself as an artist. I possess an insatiable creative drive to make art out of the images I see in my mind. To help satisfy this impulse, I am always exploring new places and trying new things. Having freedom of expression and not being limited to one style or technique of making art are paramount to my identity as an artist. I love the many different processes of making art and experimenting with new ways of creating art.
My inspiration stems from color, music, literature, and the excitement about the unknown possibilities of taking everyday objects and using them in a way that differs from what the manufacturer intended. I use a combination of found objects, acrylic paints, and aerosol paints to create abstract patterns on wood and canvas. Some of my methods include combining different chemicals and paint on paper or in plastic or wood box frames to distort vivid colors that are mixed or thrown right on the canvas. The result is the distortion of lines and contours, and layers of translucent or opaque paints on the canvas or in random patterns.
