OUTSIDE ART

Intention note — Serenity
Serenity takes the same five letters as material — K-A-S-E-R — but treats them in a radically different way than the previous three canvases in the series. The artist describes the intention that guides his entire work himself:
"A starting point: the letters KASER. They unfold in semi-wild and 3D style, in terms of dynamics, color choices, asymmetry, and effects."
Serenity pushes this approach towards the strict territory of semi-wild, rooted in the tradition of Graffiti. The panoramic format — 240 × 120 cm, is a generous format for a canvas, but remains small compared to the usual proportions of wall murals made by Writers (Graffiti artists) and especially the very generous formats that KASER particularly favors. This length of 240 cm amplifies this freedom and gives the lettering an almost wall-like amplitude.
Emotional dimensions
For KASER, the works are not neutral formal exercises. They function as records of inner states:
"The works reflect the artist's inner being and capture emotions such as aggression, calm, desire, and hope."
The title — "Serenity" — names a cycle. After Anger — the anger towards an unbalanced world —, Hope and Clarity — the intermediate states, tense between worry and calm —, Serenity marks an emotional resolution. The work does not erase the lived tensions: it has traversed them. What the title names "serenity" is less an original calm than a regained calm, still bearing the trace of the emotions that preceded it.
Serenity in the series — rupture and resolution
By its dimension as well as its style, Serenity marks a deliberate break with the three canvases preceding it. The chromatic palette constitutes the most visible break: where Anger, Hope, and Clarity played with emotionally charged dominants — the bright red of anger, the turquoise of hope, and the dominant blues of clarity —, Serenity adopts a range of mauve pink and old pink on a dark olive green background. An unusual palette for the artist, deliberately chosen.
This double break — panoramic format and atypical palette — was the condition set by KASER for the exhibition "Graffiti, letters and styles" organized by the Versoix cultural center "Le Boléro" in partnership with the gallery OUTSIDE ART. For this first appearance on Swiss soil, the artist traveled from Berlin to Geneva to deliver a work atypical in its chroma, rooted in its natural wall practice.
The series has already marked the institutional territory: Anger entered the collection of the cultural fund of the city of Versoix in July 2025.
Formal analysis
The composition deploys the five letters K-A-S-E-R according to a semi-wild style. The shapes merge into each other in a continuous, almost choreographic movement. Unlike the previous canvases where the lettering block maintained structural legibility, Serenity pushes deciphering to its limit: the letters exist as plastic mass before existing as a sign. The K and the R — isolated in the corners of the canvas in simpler characters, almost schilder-like — function as reading anchors, entry points into the composition's space.
The palette is structured around a dominance of mauve pink and old pink — a warm and tertiary range, unusual in KASER's chromatic repertoire. This choice gives the work a paradoxical softness that contrasts with the formal reading difficulty of wild style. The dark olive green background amplifies this tension: a natural and deep setting against which the mauve forms vibrate with intensity. Rectilinear lines in amber and ocher gold traverse the composition diagonally, a direct reference to the artist's architect training: they support the central lettering and rhythmize the space without constraining the movement.
The scenographic device of the exhibition deserves mention: KASER extended the work on the gallery walls with black line tracings — isolated letters, graphic shapes, and his own signature — which spill out of the canvas frame. This gesture summons the original graffiti wall and abolishes the boundary between the framed object and the exhibition space, transforming the whole into a total installation.
The artist's ability to navigate between the codes of the writer — wild style, splatters, street dynamics — and the demands of a gallery work — format, palette, technical control — may constitute a fair definition of KASER's work.
Serenity is presented by OUTSIDE ART.
Born and raised in Berlin, I discovered graffiti at the age of 12 and developed a passion for drawing from an early age. This passion led me to study architecture, where I learned techniques, perspective drawing, light and shadow, workflows and conceptual thinking.
Full of creativity, I paint on paper, canvas and walls after my daily work as an architect.
I love to paint in the sun with friends, but also alone on canvas at night.
In 2018 my first solo exhibition took place in Berlin Wedding at bar 800A where I did some commission work. Before the pandemic, I traveled the world and participated in many graffiti jams'; on the Canary Island of MOS, in Denmark, in Bangkok ...
For me, art is a life full of emotions and everyone is free to interpret it in their own way. Peace!
