Stéphane Spach's research also has qualities that highlight the reflection of the photography/painting relationship. One of the main specificities of his research lies in the conception of contemplative images through nature. Nevertheless, photography intervenes as the ultimate tool to translate a relationship of grandeur of nature with the humility that the artist formulates.

His photography will observe a theatricality of nature that is located in moments of passage that are the seasonal in-betweens. In these moments, nature finds itself in the culmination and the beginning of cycles putting a rhythm of life and death of which it is capable. Photography intervenes here in order to play between the fixed and the fleeting. In a photograph, Stéphane Spach will seek to find this intermediary, a moment during which it vacillates from one state to another.

Still life and landscape consist of conditioning the power of nature. Both tend to make her perpetual silence sound without being in an attitude of domination of it. In this perspective of total translation of nature, the landscapes make it possible to visualize the position of a photographer immersed in the present atmosphere. Like the spectator, he is seized by the silent melody of this environment. This observation then amounts to informing of the place of the operator in the photographic act: it is not only a question of its final rendering, it is also a question of experience despite the immediacy of the image.

Presentation

Stéphane Spach's photos are beautiful. Of that obvious beauty, which escapes the decorative, the necessary beauty stripped of simple things. Stripped but may not be ascetic. A touch of sensuality, a soft chromaticism readily inhabits the work of the melancholy photographer. Looking at these photographs, we see that there is day in the night, it is a night to which our eyes are not accustomed, a dull and deaf night, preserved from luminous halos and hostile headlights. Everything is in nuances, as if the exhibited objects gave off their own phosphorus, their own interior light. Rather, it would be the light of day distilled into the night, subtle, almost intimate images, where one is never in halogen.
