Description
A white stallion drinks while regarding his own beauty.
Mark Harvey's striking black-and-white artwork captures a horse in an elegant pose, drinking at the edge of a tranquil water surface. The scene is masterfully composed, with the horse's reflection mirrored perfectly below, creating a seamless, symmetrical image that blurs the line between reality and illusion. The use of monochrome accentuates the contours and details of the horse's muscular form and graceful curve of its neck, highlighting the powerful yet serene nature of the creature. The stark, high-contrast background isolates the subject, focusing attention entirely on the horse's refined silhouette. This image is a testament to the beauty and grace of equine forms, distilled into a moment of calm introspection. Its visual harmony invites viewers to reflect on the purity and elegance of nature.
Mark Harvey is renowned for his carefully crafted lighting and detailed animal studies. His photographic style lends a dramatic, almost sculpture-like stillness to his subjects.
His Equine series captures the dignity and beautiful lines of thoroughbred horses. Harvey uses a medium format Hasselblad camera.
The medium format approach and hi-speed flash synchronisation creates images of phenomenal detail and clarity even at the largest sizes.
