Description
El Revolucionario is part of James Sparshatt's Spirit of Revolution portrait series. The studies are of individuals who were witnesses to the Cuban Revolution of 1959. Each subject has a strength of character and intensity born of both belief and struggle. In some ways they are the backbone that defines the spirit that lead to the triumph, in others they represent the ghostly, ephemeral nature of hope forchange over the reality of human nature.
This powerful black-and-white portrait captures a tapestry of deep lines and textures, telling a story of resilience. His thoughtful eyes and expressive beard are sharply defined, creating a captivating focal point. His distinctive cap adorned with a star, adds character and hints at a narrative of revolution and personal ideology. The background is softly blurred subtly situating him in an urban setting of Old Havana. The stark contrast and expertly captured light enhance the photograph's emotional depth and realism. This portrait combines technical mastery with profound storytelling, making it a compelling study of human experience.
The portrait is available printed directly on to brushed aluminium, and on paper as silver gelatin or palladium platinum prints.

His palladium platinum prints are produced in collaboration with specialist platinum printer Max Caffell of 31 Studio. 31 Studio are recognised as masters of this sought after printing technique. They are also the printers of choice of Sebastiao Salgado, the estate of Henri Lartigue, and many other photographic luminaries.
James has been a winner of the International Exhibition at the Center for Fine Art Photography in Colorado, USA, shortlisted for the Sony World Photographic Awards and a finalist in the World Photography Gala awards.
