June Lake on the Eastern Escarpment of the Californian Sierra Maestre range. Hours before sunrise the frozen lake was buffeted by winds. The ice cracked and groaned, the lake surface was whipped into waves...and as the world turned star trails painted the sky.

James Sparshatt’s black and white landscapes have an ethereal beauty. There are moments when the natural form of topography is given magic by the transient touch of the elements.

The work is also available as a smaller archival giclee print and as a collectors edition Palladium Platinum print. For more details please enquire.

James Sparshatt is a British photographic artist producing work that dramatically captures the vibrancy and emotional intensity of life. His images of music and dance are drawn from bars, streets and clubs from Havana to Buenos Aires to Seville to New Orleans and beyond. They are full of movement, energy and emotion.

James has had solo exhibitions in New York, San Antonio, London, Cordoba, Havana and across the UK. His work has been sold at Art Hamptons, Art Chicago, Pulse Miami, Slick Paris, and Affordable Art Fairs in Brussels, Amsterdam, New York, Singapore, Los Angeles, London, Stockholm, Hamburg and Milan. His exhibition Land of Spirit at the Royal National Theatre in London was described in the Sunday Telegraph as “a dazzling collection of black and white images...”.

His palladium platinum prints are produced in collaboration with specialist platinum printer Max Caffell of 31 Studio. 31 Studio are recognised as masters of this sought after printing technique. They are also the printers of choice of Sebastiao Salgado, the estate of Henri Lartigue, and many other photographic luminaries.

James has been a winner of the International Exhibition at the Center for Fine Art Photography in Colorado, USA, shortlisted for the Sony World Photographic Awards and a finalist in the World Photography Gala awards.
