Artwork location: Germany

The work will be presented in Berlin as part of NAGOTA, a bold solo project at Zimmer 48. This presentation highlights the important place of the work within the development of the artist's practice.

In this piece, the artist turns to classical analogue photography. Colours that seem almost unreal are captured in fleeting, intimate states of nature. Through manipulations of exposure time and photographic materials, reality appears in a distorted, fantastical form: unusually vivid and yet entirely real.

Presentation

In Adam Ripley's artistic practice, photography becomes a space of personal and inner freedom — a field of
exploration where technical choices are always subordinate to artistic intent. His approach is built on a subtle balance
between analogue and digital processes, with each project's technique shaped by the nature of its theme. Film proves to be
the ideal medium for exploring corporeality, memory, and vulnerability — it lends the frame a sense of breath, density, and
temporal depth, allowing the viewer to slow down and tune into the pause.
When working with space, chance, and the search for new plastic solutions, Adam turns to the possibilities of
digital photography, opening up additional horizons for visual expression. His post-processing is always minimal and
strictly functional — aimed only at enhancing the structure of light and preserving the purity of color, staying as close to
the original as possible. This becomes an artistic principle: every intervention serves the goal of maintaining honesty,
sharpening the viewer's perception, and fostering direct, unmediated experience.
For Adam Ripley, not only content but also the formal embodiment of the work is crucial. His projects take
shape in intimate exhibitions and digital slideshows — formats that sustain the internal rhythm of each series without
disturbing its breathing space or semantic pauses. The photographer's visual language is rooted in observing the laws of
nature: balance, fluidity, and harmony. In his images, the boundaries between figure and environment become blurred; the
elements of the scene engage in mutual dialogue, giving rise to a new quality — a space where the inner meets the outer,
where the human merges with the landscape.
At the heart of his artistic inquiry lies the honesty and directness of gesture. Ripley's works provoke not only
thought but also a physical response: the viewer is drawn into a quiet yet tense dialogue where bodily sensation becomes
the starting point for reflection. Each project is an experience of slow looking, attention to detail, and a search for what
often escapes the everyday gaze. A special focus is placed on the study of corporeality and self-portraiture. Inspired by the
work of Lucian Freud, the artist transforms the image of the body into a site of encounter with personal emotion, memory,
and the traces of time. His photographs are not a display but an invitation to contemplation — an act of trust and inner work.
