Description
A solitary figure emerges from a golden haze. The body curves in a tense, ethereal pose. Every inch of skin disappears beneath a textured earthy layer. This monochromatic palette creates a seamless transition between the subject and the void. The head is bound in coarse wraps, concealing the identity and heightening the sense of mystery.
This artwork blends several disciplines into a single conceptual frame. It fuses photography with performance and sculpted prosthetics. The result is a glimpse into a carefully constructed imaginary realm. The artist explores the intersection of scientific magic and ancient mythology to evoke a feeling of strange familiarity.
The composition balances the vertical tension of the body with a small, enigmatic form resting at the feet. This detail grounds the scene in an otherworldly reality. The use of archival pigment print ensures a deep, saturated warmth across the entire image. This 2022 piece serves as a portal into a silent universe where the earthly nature undergoes a profound metamorphosis. Presentation
Ana Bathe (born in Belgrade in 1987) is a multi-disciplinary autodidactic artist currently living and working in Berlin.
The artist constructed sets, elaborate in nature. She sculpted masks, incorporated prosthetics as well as special effect pieces and hand painted each individual item separately. Hereby her work aims to fuse photography, performance and other visual arts into one, ultimately resulting in an ongoing assembly of imaginary worlds. Yet the unknown remains strangely familiar.
The ever-present aura of scientific magic surrounds each and every one of us. It is the process of change that occurs in our earthly nature and beyond in the endless depth of the universe. These continuous developments represent the driving force for her desire to create. By playfully blending them with mythology, she summons glimpses into other realms of possibilities. Those arcane glances she refers to as her own Portals.
