Description
Christopher Croft mixes Dali-style hyperrealism with the most burlesque situation comedy. His great mastery of drawing is found in paintings worked to the maximum. Characters, animals or objects are placed in surrealist attitudes, as if suspended in time, on a background which conceals innumerable trompe-l'oeil, like a theater set.
During his travels (Japan, New Zealand, Germany, Italy, etc.), Christopher Croft became interested in the notion of museum and conservation, in the value of the object and its place in the image. He often plays with these which are found in several paintings in series, sometimes assembled in triptych.
Presentation
Born in Melbourne in 1947, Christopher Croft testifies to the richness of the contemporary "Western" Australian school by the way in which he combines a surrealist inspiration which sometimes makes one think of Magritte and the humorous staging of the quirks of modern civilization.
