With Lingchuan–Guilin, Alain interprets the iconic landscapes of southern China, known for their soaring karst formations and tranquil rivers. The narrow, vertical format accentuates the monumentality of the mountain peaks rising into a light mist, creating an impression of silent depth. The rock masses, rendered in nuanced grays and mineral tones, gradually emerge from a minimalist space. Areas deliberately left light create visual breathing spaces that evoke mist and distance. Below, a few houses with ochre-toned roofs punctuate the landscape and introduce a discreet human presence. A solitary boat glides on the water, reinforcing the sense of calm and scale. Paper collage structures certain rock and wall surfaces, adding relief and materiality. Oil glazes unify the composition with subtle transparencies, while the incorporation of sand suggests the texture of the soil and the mineral density of the site. Through this work, Alain offers a refined and contemplative vision of Lingchuan Guilin, between suggestion and figuration, where the verticality of the mountains dialogues with the tranquility of the water in an atmosphere of timeless serenity.
