Description
Estate of Serge Leeman, Erté's secretary and successor.
This captivating work juxtaposes celestial immensity with earthly delicacy. Against a starry backdrop, a series of airplanes unfold in an arc, suggesting an infinite journey through the cosmos. Beneath, an elegant fan balances the composition. The central element, a majestic butterfly in flight amid billowing clouds, symbolizes transformation and freedom. Around it, small orange butterflies add dynamic movement and color. The artist uses contrasting colors—black, sky blue, and bursts of gold—to create a striking visual harmony. The interplay between the mechanical world of the airplanes and the organic beauty of the butterflies offers a powerful reflection on the coexistence of technology and nature. This work evokes a sense of journey and discovery, encouraging the viewer to contemplate their own place in the universe.
