Description
Screen print realized by Ivan Generalic in 1976.
It is after Generalic's Painting "Carnival", also know as "Masquerade in Winter" or "Fastnach").
Edition of 90. Hand signed and numbered.
Work depicting a festive rural procession animated by fantastical and folkloric figures set within a snow-covered village landscape. At the center stands a bird-headed figure adorned with vivid plumage, balanced on a small wheeled platform and holding flowers and ribbons, while surrounding villagers play music, gesture, and observe the scene. The composition blends humor, fantasy, and everyday rural life, rendered in bright, carefully layered colors.
A founding figure of the Hlebine School and one of the most influential artists of the Naïve Art movement, Ivan Generalic is renowned for his imaginative symbolism, flattened perspective, and richly decorative surfaces. This work exemplifies his mature graphic style, combining folkloric narrative with a playful, surreal sensibility.
