Purple Boy, 2023

Saba Shengelia

This artwork presents a haunting yet captivating scene dominated by a central abstract figure rendered in deep black, standing against a vibrant backdrop of purples and pinks. The figure appears amorphous, featuring a round, pale face with minimalistic features that evoke a sense of mystery. Wispy lines, resembling hair or tendrils, emanate from the head, adding an ethereal quality. The background is a surreal landscape where bold horizontal bands of magenta and violet create an intense, otherworldly atmosphere. Delicate, thin lines rise from the ground, suggesting fragile plants or nerves, emphasizing the tension between fragility and boldness. The juxtaposition of the dark figure against the bright, dynamic background creates a striking contrast that draws the viewer in, inviting contemplation of the ambiguous narrative. This piece challenges perceptions, merging elements of abstraction and representation in a harmonious yet unsettling composition.
