Description
A dreamlike vision where nature and architecture merge.
This 2005 lithograph explores an imaginary world, far from any suffering.
A monumental female figure integrates into the landscape like an organic hill.
Her face with delicate features seems to observe the viewer with gentleness.
Japanese Pop Art expresses itself here through codes borrowed from manga and animation.
The lush vegetation, composed of ferns and palms, envelops the scene in a deep green.
A colorful chameleon brings a playful and exotic touch to the foreground.
The artist uses digital tools to sculpt these precise forms and these smooth textures.
The whole forms a futuristic space where humans blend into the flora.
The chromatic treatment accentuates the artificial and precious aspect of this composition.
The balance between geometric patterns and natural curves creates a visual harmony.
The image ends with the discreet presence of a pale and luminous sky.
Presentation
Chiho Aoshima was born in 1974 in Tokyo. She graduated from Hosei University with a degree in economics but has enjoyed an impressive artistic career within the famous Kakai Kiki collective, founded by Takashi Murakami.
Her artistic world often makes reference to mangas and Japanese animated films. Human-like buildings, endless vines, human landscapes: so many elements which all create a dream world, devoid of suffering. Chiho Aoshima depicts a world which we can't see, which varies from colourful to childish and even futuristic, so that it blends with nature and confronts existential anguish.
She uses very modern techniques to create her artwork. She scans her sketches, works on them using Illustrator, prints her work out in large format and then takes the time to change the textures. Sometimes she brings these figures to life in animated videos.
Her artwork has been shown several times, at the Contemporary Art Museum in Lyon in 2006, at the Perrotin gallery in Paris in 2007 and at the Juan Miro Foundation in Barcelona in 2008.
