André Masson

France Born in: 1896 Masterpieces

André Masson (1896 - 1987) was a French painter who was part of the surrealist movement between the early 1920s and the 1950s.

Called "the rebel of Surrealism", his powerful influence put its mark on painting throughout the whole XXth century, from Surrealism to Abstract Art and announces American action painting.

He is, with Picasso, one of the great painters and engravers of the XXth century. Piero Crommelynck realized his very first engraving with André Masson, who worked with him until his death.
