A monumental sculpture measuring 1.74 m with the base, the WHITE SPHINGE was originally designed to be placed in a park. It is currently located in the park of the Galerie Alfart -LBK. It has been exhibited in front of the châteaux of Sully sur Loire and Chamerolles, and in front of the Barbizon Cultural Center on the occasion of the retrospective barn of Métranve's works (Analog Sculptures). It stands with an organic elegance, contrasting harmoniously with its lush natural environment and seems to challenge the visitor with the audacity of its lines. The fluid curves and bold angles capture the light, creating shadow effects that accentuate its visual depth. The work seems to defy gravity, evoking an abstract human or animal figure in a contemplative posture or in motion. The minimalist approach suggests a purity of form while offering a diversity of interpretations. The artist successfully embodies the duality of simplicity and complexity, inviting the viewer to explore the limits of abstraction. This majestic piece, both modern and timeless, stands out as a powerful and meditative focal point in its lush setting. The sculpture can be commissioned in bronze.
Bernard Métranve is a French artist born in the Ardennes in 1949. After studying literature and art, he turned to creation very early on. He began his career as a painter and worked concurrently in sculpture using various materials: wood, plaster, clay, bronze, and even concrete.
His work, primarily abstract and conceptual, is most often inspired by human and natural forms. Always seeking rhythm and the lightness of forms, he renews the somewhat frozen image of traditional bronze by choosing transparent patinas and unusual colors.
From 1988 to 2010, his sculptures brought together complementary realities. He described them as analogical (water is associated with woman, the bandages of time with life and birth, walking with the meaning of life...).
After 2010, he developed the CLARES and CODEX series, which propose a conception of sculpture based on movement, balance, and sensuality.
Currently, his art turns towards the expression of the human face (Interrogation, L'Etrangère) and the exploration of the theme of duality (Dualité I, II, III and Les Mystères de la Dualité. 2023 - 2026).
