Biography
Familiar with the animal world, Sébastien Pasques works with earth, wood and iron to give shape to a fantastic bestiary. Made during his studies, the two gorillas cast in bronze were first carved using the direct carving technique, by extracting the figure from the volume of the wood. Today, metal is his material of choice, and particularly bronze, malleable at will, whose transformation by fire allows multiple effects of coloring and patina. Passionate about natural history and comparative anatomy, this manipulator of forms brings his research closer to that of the geneticist who draws the elements of new organisms from existing bodies. The mammalian skulls, branches and industrial debris that he finds during his walks are as many fragments that he metamorphoses to give them a second nature. His universe oscillates between sublimation and disturbing visions. He questions man's control over nature, explores the ambiguity of the act of creation, both producer and destroyer of forms.
