Presentation

Marc Gaillet is a French photographer, born in Lille in 1965. He studied photography, semiology of images and art history at the Visual art Center in Lille. He began his career with publicity, during which he improved his knowledge on light and staging. In 2000, he moved to Montpelier where he still works and lives today.

Marc Gaillet began with silver film photo and qualified this digital passage as an exponential possibility to create virtually imagined photos. According to him, images have overrun daily life and this new technology is a new kind of creation which favors new breath and confusions. In his photography, Gaillet captures realities of our times, mainly the ones that bother him. Through humor, provocations and aesthetic stagings, his photos are an invitation to reflect.

Marc Gaillet regularly exhibits in France in collective and solo exhibitions. In 2011, he won the Grand prix at the International contemporary art fair in Beziers but also the medal of honor from the city for his photo-sculpture in collaboration with the artist VanBinh. Moreover, he also created album covers for the artists Von Magnet, Perry Blake, Neil Conti, Dimoné and Dirty Important Person.
