Précisionnisme
Aujourd'hui réputé comme le précurseur de l'expressionnisme abstrait, le précisionnisme est né dans les années qui ont suivi la Première Guerre mondiale. Le terme lui-même a été inventé par le premier directeur du MoMA, Alfred H. Barr Jr. Les artistes qui ont défini le mouvement du précisionnisme partageaient un objectif artistique commun : dépeindre l'architecture et l'industrie urbaine hautement modernisées de l'Amérique d'après-guerre. Ces représentations éliminent distinctement les détails visuels, et réduisent fortement leurs sujets aux formes géométriques et mécaniques essentielles observées dans le paysage nouvellement commercialisé des États-Unis.
Bien que le précisionnisme soit né en Amérique et qu'il est intrinsèquement une articulation de l'expérience américaine, il a tiré une inspiration visuelle dans les mouvements d'avant-garde européens du Cubisme et du Futurisme qui l'avaient récemment précédé. En fait, certains historiens estiment que le point de départ de cet échange peut être retracé jusqu'à l'Armory Show, la fameuse exposition d'art moderne de 1913. Celle-ci a marqué le début d'un style commun caractérisé par la géométrisation, la clarté visuelle et un traitement lisse des surfaces.
Les experts d'Artsper ont sélectionné des œuvres d'artistes inspirées par le précisionnisme, ce mouvement emblématique, ancré dans l'histoire de l'après-guerre aux États-Unis, et qui continue d'être considéré comme une relique de son époque. Parmi nos préférés se trouvent par exemple Edward Hopper, Joseph Stella et Georgia O'Keeffe.
