The Oil painting Cardboard titled "Trees near the pond" draws the viewer into a peaceful yet vibrant natural scene, where water, light, and foliage meet in harmonious balance. Through bold impasto strokes and a palette rich with greens, yellows, purples, and blues, the artist captures not only the appearance of the landscape but also its atmosphere—a living, breathing environment filled with movement, light, and stillness at once. It is a moment suspended in time, a glimpse of nature's beauty at the edge of a quiet pond. The composition leads the eye from the reflective surface of the water in the foreground to the dense growth of trees in the background, where light filters through the branches and creates a natural focal point. At the bottom of the canvas, the pond occupies a large portion of the scene. Its surface is painted with deep, earthy greens, golden yellows, and muted blues, showing the mixture of floating vegetation and water reflections. The heavy application of paint gives texture to the water, suggesting patches of lily pads, algae, or floating leaves. The reflective qualities of the pond are conveyed with darker tones of green and brown mixed with glimmers of blue, hinting at the sky above mirrored on the water's surface. The middle ground is dominated by an explosion of greens in varying shades—emerald, olive, lime, and deep forest tones. The artist builds the foliage with thick, overlapping strokes, giving each tree and bush a distinct, tactile presence. Sunlight breaks through from the right-hand side, illuminating patches of bright green and yellow foliage, making them appear almost to glow against the darker background of dense trees. The light is strongest near the center of the painting, guiding the eye toward the sunlit clearing and the warm horizon beyond. This glowing passage suggests the transition from afternoon into early evening, as the warm lavender and peach tones of the sky softly merge with the dense greenery. The background rises in a cluster of towering trees, painted with strong, angular knife strokes that layer dark greens, browns, and nearly black shadows. Their density creates a natural barrier that contrasts with the opening sky in the distance. The artist uses bold strokes of purple and muted pink above the trees to render the sky, its subtle pastels softening the intensity of the greenery and adding depth to the scene. The brushwork here is looser, suggesting fleeting clouds that drift with the evening light.

Born in 1960 in Konotop, Sumy Region, Ukraine.
1984 - Graduated from Yuriev-Polsky Pedagogical School (Department of Art and Graphics).
Worked as a drawing and drafting teacher, painting and wood carving instructor, artist-designer.
Held the position of Chief Artist in Konotop.
Since 2000 - Independent artist.
Member of the National Union of Artists of Ukraine.
Works by Boris Serdyuk are held in museums in the Sumy and Chernihiv regions, as well as in private collections in Ukraine, European countries, the USA, Israel, and other countries.
In 2018, the artist entered the global art space of the creative platform in New York, where seven of his works were included in the catalog "Painting & Graphics."
Currently lives and works in Kremenchuk, Poltava Region.
Took his first steps in the world of visual arts within the walls of his local school, then studied at Yuriev-Polsky Pedagogical School. After graduation, he returned to his homeland and started working as a drawing and painting teacher.
Later, he realized that for an artist, creative freedom is essential. Thus, after seventeen years of teaching, he left the profession to focus on his creative work. The artist is content to have the opportunity to engage in his beloved craft, which he considers the meaning of his life.
His journey had its ups and downs, victories in competitions, and recognition from admirers, yet he never ceased his determined quest for his artistic path. In ancient times, "serdyuk" referred to professional infantrymen in the Cossack ranks. This heritage likely passed down not only the surname but also many Cossack traits to the artist, including hard work, modesty, and human dignity.
Boris Serdyuk creates in genres such as portrait, landscape, and thematic composition. His works are varied, reflecting the artist's impressions of the places he visited. Among them are picturesque corners of Kremenchuk and Dnipro views, urban and maritime landscapes, the grandeur of the Carpathian Mountains, and cozy Ukrainian villages. His canvases are intriguing in terms of color and relatively compositionally perfect, revealing the life of nature at the time of their execution.
There are also commissioned portraits and paintings, such as "Shevchenko in Baturyn." He spent over a year working on it, studying the architecture of the former hetman capital. However, the artist prefers to work swiftly, capturing the vision of a painting before it fades from his mind and before the sun changes its angle and shadows. On average, according to the artist, he spends about 40 minutes on a single landscape.
Boris successfully combines a poetic perception of the world and a deep understanding of nature with brilliant artistic execution. His paintings exude a special light and a delicate sense of nature – vivid colors on the canvas resonate with intermediate tones. The artist has abandoned contours, replacing them with separate and contrasting brushstrokes; his paintings amaze with colors, not only their diversity but also the amount of substance applied to the canvas – vibrant, vivid, voluminous.
Describing the master's works is a challenging task. Boris Serdyuk's works are special – they are painted with soul. One must see and feel the wonderful harmony of nature on the artist's canvases firsthand and touch the great mystery of Art.
