Biography
Lieuwe Kingma was educated at the Minerva Academy in Groningen, where he was educated in the traditional practice of painting from direct observation. This classical foundation continues to inform his work, even as his artistic language has evolved over time.
Over the course of his career, Kingma has built an extensive and accomplished oeuvre, consistently exploring and pushing his own artistic boundaries. Recurring themes in his work include landscapes of southern France, the expansive polders of Groningen, still lifes featuring vases, flowers or apples, and the human figure in nude studies. Through these subjects, he investigates light, space, form and atmosphere with a refined and attentive eye.
With more than 35 years of professional practice, Lieuwe Kingma has gained both national and international recognition. His work is held in private collections and has been widely exhibited.
