Skull V1 – Words from the Artist
I look around my studio and it’s chaotic. Papers and paints scattered everywhere, like little traces of my creative journey lying on the floor.
Death and grief have been captivating me artistically lately. People come and go, because that is the cycle of life. One day, the only thing left of us will be our bones.
Yet, it is our memories that make us shine. The moments we have lived — good or bad — color the world, making life bloom even along its darkest paths. The joyful and painful moments embrace us and show, to ourselves and those around us, that life is beautiful — even amidst sorrow and grief.
With Skull V1, I tried to capture this cycle: the darkness and the light, the past and the present, sorrow and joy. A work that reminds us that the beauty of life is everywhere, even in the shadowed corners of the soul.
Presentation
Stef Basias is a young 23-year-old painter born in Greece. He grew up in an artistic atmosphere, sur-rounded by a social circle of artists.
With a background in graphic design and 3D design, he incorporates elements from these fields into his painting, crafting compositions that oscillate between the dreamlike allure of pop-romanticism and the unfil expression of the subconscious. Through mixed techniques, bold colors, and symbolism, he explores issues related to psychology, personal identity, and social tensions, creating a visual dialogue that moves between personal and collective experience.
Stef Basias is inspired by influential people in the world of painting, such as Jean Dubuffet, Andy Warhol, Robert Combas, David Hockney, Jean-Michel Basquiat, and many others.
For him, art is a way to decode the subconscious and bring inner worlds to the surface. Each piece is an invitation to explore the tension between structure and spontaneity, between personal introspection and shared human experience.
