Francis Glénat

Born in: 1950

Francis Glenat was born in Paris in 1950. From an expressionist portrait of a jazzman to dreamlike still lives, the painting style of Francis Glénat goes through pure figuration and partial abstraction, thus experimenting special techniques to define little by little his own personal style.

Interested in pure abstraction, the artist considers himself more of a visual artist than a painter. The exploration of pigments, sanded paint, ochre ranges, smooth or scratched surfaces by quick and spontaneous movements shape his way of expression.

Francis Glenat's paintings sometimes evoke old walls that carry the mark of time. Always treated as a resonating surface, the canvas becomes cave painting, tactile and mineral. From his contemplative research of materials emerges a poetic emotion and a reflection on the texture of things.
