Translation in progress

Charlie Scheips is a painter living in New York. He is also a well-known curator, art advisor, writer, and cultural historian. He has contributed articles to major publications including Harper's Bazaar, Vogue, Vanity Fair, Architectural Digest as well as other major publications in the United States and in Europe.

From 2010-2012 Scheips curated the groundbreaking David Hockney: Fleur Fraîches Drawings on the iPhone and iPad that premiered to worldwide acclaim at the Foundation Pierre Bergé/Yves Saint Laurent in Paris. Scheips, who served as David Hockney's chief assistant in the 1980s, has been closely associated with the world-renowned artist for more than three decades.

Between 2014 and 2016, Scheips was the founding director of the Elizabeth Taylor Archive for the Elizabeth Taylor Trust in Los Angeles. For a decade Scheips was the founding Director of the Condé Nast Archive in New York. He also served for two years as the Worldwide Director of Photographs for Phillips de Pury auction house and, previous to his time with David Hockney, directed public relations for Chicago's Museum of Contemporary Art.

Scheips's bestselling book American Fashion, a major 340-page illustrated book of eight decades of fashion in America, was commissioned by the Council of Fashion Designers of America and was released in September 2007. His book, Andy Warhol: The Day the Factory Died, was released in October 2006 in advance of the 20th anniversary of the artists' death. His latest work, Elsie de Wolfe's Paris: Frivolity Before the Storm is a landmark work of social history and a poignant vision of a vanished world.

Scheips was born in New York City. He received his B.A. in Art/Art History from Ripon College and an M.A. in American Studies from Columbia University. He currently lives in Manhattan.
