Made with acrylic colors, gesso, resins mixed with sands.

Francesca Borgo is an Italian abstract painter whose work revolves around ethereality, texture, atmosphere, and a contemporary investigation of the abstract landscape. Her multivalent studio practice incorporates a range of different aesthetic positions and methods. Her textured paintings are painstakingly built layer by layer, as Borgo rubs in paints, gesso and resins mixed with sand. Within the layers, a variety of finishes, from radiantly shiny to matte, create a vigorous interplay between shadow and light. In her more ethereal paintings, soft layers of acrylics stain the canvas, pulling the eye into cloudy, otherworldly depths. Her abstract landscapes feature distinctive horizon lines, going beyond notions of reality, examining less concrete notions of what is being represented in the liminal space where worlds come together. Borgo also experiments with new media, blending traditional drawing with computer manipulation to create unique digital prints.

Francesca Borgo

Italy Born in: 1970

Born in the northern Italy (1970) she is a self-taught Italian painter.

She started painting and drawing as a private passion that fuelled her imagination and her desire to express her most cherished views of a different future for humanity and the planet. After a period of illness that held her at home for a while, away from day job and chores, she stated to have 'daily dates' with colours and paintbrushes, feeling more and more in contact with herself. In the last decade, painting progressively developed into her main activity and interest. She now lives in Trieste (Italy) and works in her studio at home.

She is a frequent participant of London (UK) art fairs, works with art advisors on residential projects and nurtures plans to bring more works to the US in the upcoming years. Her works are represented in private collections in the USA, England, Japan, Switzerland, Spain, Malta and Italy.

ARTIST'S STATEMENT

Art gives me the chance to shape life around my own values, my personal way to feel and act free.

I love to paint abstract landscapes, and daily outdoor walks are my main source of inspiration: I find balance and freedom in retracing my steps, enjoying the lights, diving into the smallest details of the scene. Also, when I touch the bark of old trees I feel connected to earth and my perception of time expands, allowing calm feelings and a sense of perspective.

I love to represent that peacefulness as cloudy areas merging into one another, where lights and colors mix and blend in a continuous movement, beyond what is real or realistic. It's an effect of 'non-definition' that tries to go beyond the painting and symbolizes my wish to fully be myself, open to other people, part of the natural world.

I am so grateful when people wish to share their thoughts and emotions, entering in a dialogue with the painting, perhaps willing to touch its surface or imagining himself or herself into it. It's a precious chance for mutual exchange where everyone is safe and free to experience and express.

I deem my works are mainly influenced by modern and contemporary artists. In particular I'm drawn by abstract expressionists such as M. Rothko, J. Pollock; neo-expressionnists like A. Kiefer; abstract artists such as Zao Wou-Ki. I love the works of masters such as J.M.W. Turner and C. Monet.
