Bernar Venet

Born in: 1941

France

Bernard Venet is a French visual artist , born in 1941 in Château-Arnoux-Saint-Auban in Alpes-de-Haute-Provence. He has been living in the United States since 1966 where he has become known for his steel sculptures and his drawings. In the 60s, he shows the canvases covered with tar. Its notoriety begins during this period with the achievement of a sculpture without specific form composed of a pile of coal paid to even the ground. Its faculty of intellectual abstraction and his taste for the mathematical reasoning and experimentation the lead to what will soon become the conceptual art. In the years 80, it puts in place the basic structure of its lines undetermined. It's made of steel and installed in many urban spaces and public collections, especially in Nice, Paris, Berlin, Tokyo, Strasbourg, Beijing, Austin, San Francisco, Museum of Grenoble. In 2011 the sculptor installed his monumental works in the Versailles gardens.
