Description
From the Lumière / Lightworks corpus, this photograph made the cover of Visuel magazine in 1983. It won a national competition on the topic of legs for publication. A few months earlier, I had done a series of studio work on this subject: a mixture of dreamlike and eroticism. In my psyche, mysterious women have often inhabited the dream realm. Here, I added wind and light.
Presentation
Phil Skolle is the American painter John Skolle's grandson. The Skolles share a common personal history with the photographer Walker Evans, told in many publications and kept in the archives of the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York.
His work in photography focuses mostly on light, shown in several exhibitions in Paris, Nice, La Rochelle, Luxembourg, New York… In 1983, he was awarded first prize in the “Visuel" Contest and he was also a prize winner in the Picto Contest in 2013. He is the author of a photography book, “Writing with Light". A new book publication is underway: “Lightworks", along with a new exhibition in New York.
In the field of film-making he works as a screenwriter. ln 1998, his script “Hoaxer" was nominated for the Fade-In Screenwriting Awards in Hollywood.
He is also a published, shortlisted and awarded author : lampoons, novels, and short stories. He is currently completing a novel, “Seriland", and a series of short-stories, “Freak Waves".
LIGHTWORKS
' "Writing with light": This is the original meaning of the word “photography" – and this has been my way since I was 19.
On every continent I capture light. My photos often result from sheer luck, gifts from nature, unexpected encounters between a graphical place served by light and my watchful eye.
I am not trying to deliver a concept, but merely to offer timeless images into which onlookers can venture. I suppose it is an attempt to ward off the ugly and dark aspects of the world.
My pictures contain very few elements. Nothing that jumbles the senses. Everything lies in the mystery of light. I like to arouse in people the pleasure of immersing themselves in a sea of shades, contrasts and colors.
