Biographie
Jean-Michel Rousvoal est un photographe français né en 1967 qui vit et travaille à Pontoise en France. Il découvre la photographie durant son adolescence et décide d'en faire son métier. Il est diplômé de l'École Nationale Louis Lumière. Après une dizaine d'années passées en laboratoire photographique professionnel, il crée son studio en 1992 et commence à collaborer avec de grandes entreprises. Il prend aussi le temps de forger son regard, d'éduquer son œil au contact de la peinture, de la photographie... Un désir de voir pour se nourrir de leur histoire, leurs traditions et leurs symboles et qui fait naître peu à peu un travail personnel. Il présente une première grande série « Credendo Vides » en 2016 lors d'une exposition dans son studio de Pontoise. En 2018, il est sélectionné pour participer au Festival européen de la photographie de nu à Arles avec sa série « La Madeleine Repentante ». L'espace Van Gogh lui permet alors de déployer pleinement l'ampleur de ses grands formats. Le caractère pictural assumé de certaines de ses séries à la mise en scène toute en luxuriance baroque, parsemée de références, nous invite à traverser le miroir du temps, un temps qui s'étire et laisse son empreinte. L'alchimie mise en œuvre trouve aussi sa source au « noir » du laboratoire argentique, et se prolonge ainsi avec le numérique et les impressions pigmentaires. Si ici la photographie se joue de ses limites dans une profusion symbolique, d'autres séries se concentrent sur le corps seul ou sur un paysage pour en capturer l'essentiel dans un moment suspendu de silence.
