Biography

Ethereal in the palette yet layered in the composition as a coating of gesso covers the raw canvas, Qingzhen Han's eloquent abstract paintings possess a rare lyrical harmony. Echoing Piet Mondrian's famous quote 'every artist has been inspired more by the beauty of lines and color and the relationships between them than by the concrete subject of the picture, Qingzhen Han's broad spectrum of carefully balanced gestures is a vehicle to convey a pure emotional state through the essentials of painting: the mark, the line and color. She harnesses the inherent qualities of her materials, using their textural appeal to create layers and depth on the surface and to encourage emotive and subjective responses in the viewer.
