Thomas Turner turned towards sculpture as his main medium whilst studying in the Faculty of Plastic Arts, Paris 8. He began by modelling ceramic and then, as time went by, metal work came to him quite naturally.

Having worked for some time as a Decorator in the film industry, he now devotes his time to his workshop in Montreuil, where he has spent the last six years.

On discovering Thomas Turner's sculptures, one receives a striking impression of strength mixed with delicacy, which can be disconcerting.

His METAFAUNA bestiary is remarkable in that it conjugates the harshness of metal with the smoothness of its lines. Soft curves or sharp angles, matt aspect or material lustre, the fineness of the forms and the rigorous outlines, all the work of Thomas Turner shows the duality of nature.

Each sculpture made from raw material responds to a precise balance which appears to be in movement as if driven and animated by nature itself. A dialogue is thus created between the matter and the subject and, looking closer, each trophy comes to life.

The works of Thomas Turner are capable of questioning us, of troubling us and of surprising us, all at the same time. They represent many occasions to see the living reinvented in all its fragile and lasting elements but equally violent and uncontrolled. METAFUNA or the exploration of our own animality, where each person's interior substance can express itself, determination, fighting spirit, force, power, beauty.

“There is no need to be made of flesh to be alive" could well resume the work of Thomas Turner.
