Biography
Floresta is a series of photographs that intrigue and enchant through a dense and sublime floral language. Here, Ruiz has captured rich, bountiful, tropical flowers. This sap-filled, life-filled nature depicts the lush, mysterious beauty of his native Argentina.
Not without the nostalgia of exile, these blossoms evoke a memory of her Paranà , a river that borders the wild world of the rainforest and the civilized world of Buenos Aires.
Melancholic, tribal, symbolic and totemic, Max Ruiz's photographs were produced by the Maison Picturale in large format on Beaux Arts watercolor paper and drawn with a brush using an original and non-toxic process based on mother-of-pearl, pine resin, lampblack and gelatin.
From the subdued atmosphere of the studio-gallery, Floresta, Max Ruiz's childhood village, and the vanished era of pictorialist photography can be seen at the same time.
