Biography

Born on 6/4/1899 in Carouge (GE), died on 24/7/1972 in Geneva, prot., of Cully and Savigny.

Son of Jean Hermann and Alice Jenny. Single. Pottery training with Edouard Knecht in Carouge. In 1922, N. moved into the old Carouge tile factory, which would become the Poterie de La Chapelle. In 1926, he obtained the federal scholarship for applied arts and joined L'Œuvre.

From 1924, he created colored ceramics with geometric decoration in the Art Deco spirit. From 1932, he produced at the same time, assisted by his workers, utilitarian and commemorative pottery. He taught at the School of Decorative Arts in Geneva from 1949 to 1952. N. was one of the most important Swiss ceramists of the first half of the 20th century.
