Description
Arthur Dorval, son of a great art dealer, has always lived in the familiarity of painting, rubbed shoulders with artists, grew up surrounded by works of art. It was quite natural that he studied at the prestigious Saint Luc art school in Tournai. He noted that Wassily Kandinsky opened the way to abstraction through his attempt to capture the essential reality of the world in personal expression; that Piet Mondrian fought against the subjective element to reduce forms to their geometric components; from his traveling companion from De Stijl, Georges Vantongerloo, he learned that "art is a science and not a fantasy and that thanks to mathematical operations, figures or numbers are products of the brain like the arts, science and philosophy. » To these illustrious pioneers of abstraction, he did not forget to associate Auguste Herbin who uses color as an essential element of construction, Georges Dewasne who plays with luminosity to reveal the third dimension, Alberto Magnelli and his marvelous drawings on colored flat areas, Serge Poliakoff who renders all their vibrations to the colors and lights.
