Jacqueline Wouters

Netherlands • 1965

Inspired by industrial geometry and Zen philosophy, Jacqueline Wouters creates abstract paintings that balance structure, rhythm and inner stillness.

Biography

Jacqueline Wouters grew up in the Dutch town of Mijdrecht, surrounded by demolition materials, steel constructions and industrial forms from her grandfather's business. These raw, geometric elements have remained a fundamental source of inspiration and continue to shape the visual language of her work.

Later in her life, Wouters became deeply influenced by Asia — particularly by Zen philosophy, simplicity, rhythm and the meditative approach to art-making. In her paintings, she brings these worlds together, transforming industrial forms into compositions with a spiritual, almost cosmic presence.

She works with acrylics, oil paint and water-based media on MDF or canvas, exploring contrasts between rigid and fluid forms, matte and glossy surfaces, restraint and intensity of colour. Using circles, lines, tubes and stencils, she builds layered, rhythmic abstractions. Her works are graphic and abstract, always without a horizon — inviting the viewer into an inner landscape of stillness and reflection.
