Description
With Lisière interieure, Sophie Dumont continues her exploration of mental landscapes through a painting of layers and silences. The work is constructed through successive superimpositions, where horizontal bands and slightly oblique forms suggest a space that is both interior and mineral, situated on the border between stability and movement.
The composition rests on a subtle balance between structure and effacement. The lines remain present without ever becoming rigid, while the colored areas—beiges, muted grays, patinated ochres, and deep reds—are organized within a deliberately restrained palette. Each color seems applied with deliberate restraint, as if inscribed within a larger memory built from accumulated layers and time.
The material, worked in both thickness and transparency, retains the trace of the artist's hand. The rubbings, the deliberate corrections, and the slight internal ruptures give the surface a palpable depth, inviting the viewer's gaze to wander slowly. Nothing is demonstrative: the work exists in a calm, almost meditative tension.
Inner Edge does not depict an identifiable landscape, but evokes a transitional state—a threshold, a zone of passage between the visible and the intimate. Through this restraint and apparent stability, Sophie Dumont offers a silent painting, where contemplation becomes an inner experience.

Sophie Dumont is a contemporary French artist whose work is a profound exploration of memory, time, and the sedimentation of knowledge.
