Biography

Dominique Liccia was born in Novella, Corsica in 1953. Coming from a family of workers who did not receive an intellectual education, it is through his readings that he gets into contact with the arts. A painter of art brut, he began to claim his ideas on the city walls. His style of painting is very violent, expressive and especially engaged.

In 1968, the year of unrest and riots, he was working any jobs he could find. At the same time, he began to develop an interest for art and especially for sculpture. In the 1980s, he was an activist for the rights of his land and his people and became increasingly focused on his painting and on political messages.

In 1990, he made his debut in the art world, showing three paintings at the winter salon in Lyon. Three years later, he had his first solo show at the Gerard Chomarat Gallery in the 8th arrondissement of Lyon. The critics began to show an interest in his work. His artistic career took off.

He has been painting and sculpting for many years. He is passionate by street-art, graffiti, tags and street posters. He prefers to paint on large wooden pieces and he uses mixed techniques (wood, paper, pastel, painting, pencils...).

Through his paintings, he tries to share his strong political messages. Liccia has chosen the direction of protest and not that of pictorial aesthetic. With the evolution of society, his paintings have also changed. In his paintings, he denounces the political and economic problems of the world.
