Zuzana Rohelová

Spain • 1995

In his velvety canvases, the living becomes territory; the subdued light and earth tones establish a suspended, almost meditative time.

Biography

Zuzana Rohelová (Havířov, Czech Republic, 1995) has lived in Spain since childhood and now works in Barcelona. Self-taught, she decided to professionalize her practice in 2021.

Her painting explores the porosity between humans and nature. Bodies, animals, and landscapes blend into simple, enveloping forms, where the narrative remains open. Through a neutral and harmonious palette, velvety textures, and restrained light, Zuzana constructs worlds of calm, scenes that are both familiar and dreamlike, as if suspended.

Faced with the acceleration of the contemporary world, his work acts as a breath of fresh air: it invites us to slow down, to look long and hard, to accept the ambiguity of its contours. Without emphatic rhetoric, but with sensitivity, the artist recalls the fine line that connects us to the living and the possibility of finding refuge there.
