Thaddée

Thaddée is born in 1976 in Chevreuse, lives in Compiègne (France). She is self-taught and practices collage since 2003. Since 2009, she has been working with characters, objects, plants and minerals from the engravings of the Encyclopedia of Diderot and d'Alembert and old photographs, often scientific. She participates in the residence outside the walls of Space Observatory of the National Center for Space Studies.

"In my collages, I use the engravings from the Encyclopedia of Diderot and d'Alembert. These engravings of trades and techniques of the eighteenth century are the alphabet of a world whose forms still structure our imaginations. I assemble the elements engraved in small scenes and integrate them in photographs of the twentieth century.

Mixing the footprints of History to those of modernity, I create images nourished by the presence of beings and objects. The scientific and astronomical photographs serve me to divert the spectator's gaze from its landmarks, and the characters and objects in levitation suggest a parallel world, both fantastic and familiar."
