Hajime Sorayama, born on February 22, 1947, in Imabari, Ehime Prefecture, Japan, is a globally acclaimed illustrator recognized for his hyper-realistic, airbrushed depictions of humanoid robots. His signature "Sexy Robot" series, introduced in 1983, redefined cybernetic art by blending sensuality with futuristic design. These chrome-plated, hyper-detailed robotic figures have become some of the most sought-after works in contemporary art, with auction prices exceeding $500,000. Sorayama's art bridges fine art, science fiction, and pop culture, influencing Hollywood, luxury fashion, and advanced technology.
In September 2024, Sorayama unveiled Space Traveler, a monumental 13-foot stainless steel sculpture in Shanghai's Pudong New District.
