Discovery 2017-1, 2017

Kug Kyung Oh

Edition: 3 of 6

"Discovery 2017-1" by Kug Kyung Oh stands as a testament to the power of material transformation. Crafted in bronze, this towering sculpture seems to defy time, its surface bearing the marks of erosion, as if shaped by the elements over centuries. The elongated form, partially fragmented, creates a sense of both strength and fragility—an abstracted figure emerging from or dissolving into the space around it.

• An Exploration of Presence and Absence – The interplay between volume and void gives the sculpture an ethereal quality, allowing light to interact with the negative spaces in unexpected ways.

• Intricate Bronze Surface – The heavily textured surface, resembling weathered wood or ancient ruins, enhances the sculpture's organic and almost archaeological presence.

• Limited Edition – One of only six in existence, ensuring its rarity and artistic significance.

Kug Kyung Oh is celebrated for his ability to infuse sculpture with a sense of time's passage. Discovery 2017-1 is an evocative reflection on impermanence and endurance, making it particularly compelling for collectors drawn to works that convey both materiality and emotion. Its towering form gives it a commanding presence, ideal for spaces that invite contemplation.

"Discovery 2017-1" is more than a sculpture—it is an encounter with time, form, and the poetic nature of material.
