Behind Waiting

Reims From January 19, 2023 to March 8, 2023

Presentation
Behind waiting by Frédéric Bourret.

After having signed beautiful series of New York, including one awarded at the Bourse du Talent, – an eternal city but often paralyzed by its own image, so well known – Frédéric Bourret releases his work here and gives power back to the viewer through this project. innovative, an openness to timelessness between photography and graphic design, with subtle but intriguing nods to Impressionism, contemporary art, contemporary Pop Art and France in the 1920s. in Paris, Tokyo, Valence and Bucharest, Frédéric Bourret x-rays the images of life in his cities. Not only taking the eyes off these random subjects, but also manipulating the specifics of other attributes by which the modern human defines himself – the cuts of fashionable clothes, the trendy hairstyle, the image of social and technological prowess by iPad or iPod, personal design as a public extension of being – the photographer renders his characters blank of past and life, giving complete freedom to the viewer to impregnate their own visions and interpretations, guided only by body language. The lady in hijab becomes a nun in a white robe and a bridge between the importance of Islam and Christianity's modesty.

Are the three ladies waiting for the bus at the Pont Neuf old acquaintances or in pity for chance in the rain? Impressions intertwine through time. Beneath the palm trees of Valencia, the iconic advertising posters for historic bullfights take up the neon colors of the Burger King logo. The decorated windows of the Chaussée d'Antin are transposed into the decorated world of the 1920s. The nature of cities in Frédéric Bourret's work is cultivated with delicate brushstrokes, as if Monet's gardens had politely invited themselves into modern life, so much the great painter and his decorations continue to please us. Just like the classic silhouette image, Frédéric Bourret removes to open. But while the silhouette remains a wall, inflexible and anonymous, the images in this series captivate with a freedom of discovery linked to the personal gaze, eternal in this area which opens the flight of the imagination.
