The Children’s Republic

Casablanca From January 29, 2024 to March 29, 2024

Presentation
"The Children's Republic" explores the theme of a future where children become the new leaders of a society, overcoming the difficulties of the past. The concept was inspired by a film of the same name by Guinean filmmaker Flora Gomez, in which children are inspired to create their own republic after the loss of their parents. The exhibition features works depicting children who decide to take on challenges by creating a futuristic republic. The project emphasizes the idea of community and play, emphasizing children's ability to interact regardless of their social or ethnic background. The use of textiles, such as Ndop fabric and western collars, appears to be a visual metaphor for cultural and social diversity.

The exhibition seeks to promote a sense of community by bringing together different people from different parts of the world, drawing inspiration from the way children play, regardless of their social or ethnic background. Ultimately, “The Children’s Republic” aims to encourage viewers to embrace a model of “Sankofa,” inviting them to return to their roots and culture in order to better understand themselves and their community. The works are intended to spark reflection on resilience, community and cultural pride, and to encourage viewers to reconnect with their origins in order to better understand their identity.
